About
Caylen Crawford is a music producer and composer for visual media based in the United States and New Zealand. He is also a professional guitarist and bassist who has worked with industry professionals from around the world.
Growing up in New York in a musical family, Caylen learned to appreciate music at a young age. He began studying the piano at age 7, to which he soon added seven years of classical cello study. He began playing guitar at age 13 under the guidance of Wil Greenstreet (aka Billy Green) and spent subsequent years performing in reggae, funk and rock bands before developing a life-long interest in jazz.
Caylen enjoyed formative studies at the Berklee College of Music while preparing to enter the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) where he earned his first degree in guitar performance. He was a student of Tariqh Akoni and Jody Fisher. He continued his musical studies at LACM earning a second degree in Music Composition for Visual Media (Film/TV), graduating with the school’s highest honors. His teachers included Martin Davich (ER, Beverly Hills 90210) and Jon Kull (Avatar, Black Panther, Hunger Games). During his studies Caylen scored multiple short films and worked on a documentary project with Martin Davich.

In 2016, Caylen moved to New Zealand where he completed several recording projects while also maintaining a busy performance schedule with several bands. He has performed at the exclusive Northern Club in Auckland, played bass for the Malcolm Barr Big Band and performed often at the Hamilton Jazz Society. He was also the bassist for Hin & Co. and Haast Hunter.

In 2023, Caylen moved to Northern California where he was the bassist for the Shelley Rusk Band and Brian Nickens, the lead guitarist for the blues band Walkabout Blues, and a mentor to blues guitarist Christian Watts.

Caylen Crawford currently teaches guitar, bass and piano, performs in multiple ensembles, creates content for the YouTube channel Lucra Jam Tracks, and writes for Doug Stebleton’s music catalog in Los Angeles which provides music for film and TV studies.
